Rachel Rotenberg was born in Toronto, Canada. She attended college in Toronto, and New York, receiving her BFA from York University in 1981.

Rachel and her partner Jean-Pierre Weill have five children. She is a Guggenheim fellow 2023, the recipient of grants from The   Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Canada Arts Council, Franz and Virginia Bader Fund, Harold and Ruth Chenven Foundation, Art Bank of Canada, and E.D. Foundation.

Selected exhibits include American University Museum, Museum on the Seam, Barbur Gallery, Van Leer Institute, The Baltimore Museum of Art, Creative Alliance, McLean Project for the Arts, Hillyer Art Gallery, Marianne Boesky, and Lori Bookstein Galleries.  

Rachel divides her time between Jerusalem and New York.
